Surrender
Cast your eye on your path.
As a survivor you carve out your way.
Feel your strength and focus on what gives you strength.
There is inner peace when you surrender.
This piece came to me one day as I was on my usual path, trail running in the woods. As I sometimes do, I had been struggling with an issue in my mind and had difficulty resolving it. Perplexed and uncertain at why this issue seemed to haunt me, I made my way running up a hill, on a soft, woodsy trail. I didn't need to place my feet carefully, the trail was easy and familiar under my feet.
However, running downhill, the path turned into a dusty, hard gravel road. Loose rocks, pebbles and stones made it difficult to run on. Logically, it would make sense to walk down this unsteady gravel road, as the footing was uncertain. However, when I tried to be careful and slow to a walk, I found my feet slipping and sliding over the gravel rocks. Once I started running again, it felt more steady and safer than I would have imagined. I kept my eye on the path.
There was something powerful about the impact of my feet on the ground while running. If I just keep going, feel my strength, and focus on my path, I will make it! And as I concentrated on the path, I later realized, I not only made it down the gravel road safely, but had also resolved the issue in my mind. The struggle was gone.
I had surrendered to the path, the moment, and ran completely at peace. I see this small example as a spiritual metaphor for life.
When you think you can't, you can't. When you think you can, you can. Believe and focus on your path. Don't ever become a victim of your situation. Be a survivor. There IS inner peace when you surrender.
