Living a Transcendent Life

The Merriam Webster Dictionary describes Transcendent as "exceeding usual limits, surpassing, transcending material existence, incomparable".

Transcendence is not easily explained. With certain spiritual paths, transcendence may include attaining profoundly altered states. This may include achieving a feeling of deep connection with life or the universe, having great insight, overcoming our ordinary physical state, or having psychic or paranormal experiences.

I believe transcendence is also about living up to your real potential, and overcoming your self-imposed limits. A transcendent life is marked by living full-out, aspiring for higher things, being self-actualized, and highly awake. Someone who embraces a sense of sacredness in life, rather than suffering, who is spiritual but also very "real", in the moment, is on the path of living a transcendent life. I think we all can have many spiritual experiences, but what's important is what we learn from them and how we look at these experiences.

So the question is how can we live a transcendent life, here and now?

There are actually many ways. We can consciously decide we will live up to our real potential because it is important to us. We can also allow transcendence to reach us by being open to it. We can practice letting go of living for tomorrow or yesterday, and let go of suffering. We can engage in activities that let us feel transcendent - and live by our highest truth.
