Staying Grounded in Uncertain Times

Have you ever experienced a feeling of uncertainty without knowing why? Do you sometimes feel a general sense of uneasiness, but can't explain it? Maybe you caught yourself acting differently and wondered what the reason was for that. If you haven't been through a personal challenge and can't put your finger on why you feel uneasy, you may not be the only one.

We all can experience uneasiness at one time or another without direct knowledge as to why. A while back, I was coaching several independent clients during the course of a few days, and almost all clients reported feeling "off" or "not themselves" that week. This was interesting as I, too, was feeling this before they mentioned it, and had no clue what it was about.

Then I came across an astrological forecast. I'm not actually a follower of astrological forecasts, but nevertheless, I decided to read it. This forecast stated that "we are currently in a time of opposing energies". It also said that is was to be a time with lots of "big stuff going on", "making us question our motives and our abilities". Being skeptical, I asked myself, "well, when is there not big stuff going on in the world?" Yet, reading this forecast, I had to admit that there seemed to be a correlation to what it said and the general tone of uneasiness I and my clients had been picking up.

Whether the astrologers were right or wrong, I decided what is important is the connection with your own inner guide. Basically, if you are feeling a certain way, be aware of it. Stop for a moment and breathe. Acknowledge how and what you feel, even if you can't figure out the source. Remember that we are all interconnected beings and chances are that you might be picking up energy from people around you. Once you examine your feelings and have decided whether this is or isn't your "stuff" then you can take action accordingly. 

Here are simple tips for moving through uncertain times:

  • Return to compassion. Allow yourself to be compassionate for yourself and for others.
  • Take time out. Keep your emotional reserves high. If you feel emotionally drained, regroup.
  • Do a loving meditation focusing fully on the love in your heart.
  • Don't get stuck in frustration. Take the easy road without guilt until you can mentally and emotionally function better again. It's okay to be gentle with yourself.
  • When all else fails, laugh. Find humor in the situation. It radically changes your energy!
